Esterillos Beach
Playa Esterillos is an extensive beach 7 km long, with grayish sands, rectilinear and open coast, characterized by the presence of great natural wealth along the entire coastline, forming a line of tropical forest mainly composed of palm trees and trees of almond. It is divided into three sections: Esterillos Este, Esterillos Centro and Esterillos Oeste.
The beaches of Esterillos Centro and Este, separated by the Bejuco River, have mangrove areas. Esterillos Oeste is characterized by the presence of rocky promontories and small streams where you can spot wildlife, such as iguanas, crocodiles and a great variety of birds. It is separated from Playa Hermosa by Punta Judas. It has a section of rocky bottom with strong waves during high tide, while to the west there is another area of sandy bottom. Esterillos Oeste is also known because it is home to La Sirena, a sculpture of a mermaid sitting on the rocks looking towards the ocean. When the tide rises, water covers the pedestal of the work, so that the statue appears to emerge from the surface of the sea. This monument, cast in bronze, is the work of Puriscaleño sculptor Albino Valverde.
